What to do right away, before contacting us
Stop using the device and disconnect it. Every new write can overwrite the space where your deleted data still sits. Don't run a disk check (CHKDSK) or repair tools, don't format it, and don't keep reconnecting a clicking drive – with a damaged mechanism, every spin-up does more harm. Don't install anything on the same drive, not even data recovery software.
Four types of damage
Logical: deletion, formatting or a corrupted file system, while the device itself is technically fine. Electronic: a burnt-out controller board, or a drive that won't respond after a power surge. Mechanical: damaged heads or motor, typically after a fall – the drive clicks or beeps; it can only be opened in the dust-free environment of a clean room. Flash: SSDs, USB flash drives and memory cards where the controller or memory chips fail and the data is read directly from the chips. The chances of success and the price vary considerably between these groups.
SSDs and modern laptops are a special case
After files are deleted, an SSD soon frees up the space using the TRIM command, so with deleted data on an SSD, every hour counts. Laptops with Apple Silicon or T2 chips and many ultrabooks have storage soldered to the board and encrypted – the data can then only be recovered by repairing the board itself, not by removing the drive. That's why, with a dead MacBook, our first step is getting the board to boot again.

Once we receive the device, we assess it and identify the type of damage. We'll send you a quote: what can be recovered and how much it will cost. We won't do anything further without your approval. We'll go through the recovered data with you and hand it over on a new storage device.

Your questions answered
How much does data recovery cost?
The price depends on the type of damage and the size of the storage device, so we can only quote it after an assessment. The price shown above is for the assessment. Logical damage usually costs much less to fix than mechanical damage. You confirm the amount before we start the recovery.
Can data always be recovered?
Not always. Recovery may not be possible if the platters are physically destroyed, the data has been overwritten, or the storage is encrypted and its board no longer works. We'll tell you your chances after the assessment, before you pay for the recovery.
Can I try recovery software myself?
If the drive works fine and you've just deleted some files, yes – but install the software on a different drive and save the recovered data somewhere else. If the drive clicks, is slow or keeps disappearing, the software puts it under further strain and can reduce the chances of recovery.
How do I send a drive safely by courier?
Put the drive in an anti-static bag (or at least an ordinary bag), then wrap it in bubble wrap so it can't move around in the box. The courier takes care of the rest, and we'll let you know as soon as the drive arrives.
What happens to my data afterwards?
We'll return your data on a new storage device, such as an external hard drive or a USB flash drive, depending on how much data there is. You'll see which device we'll use and what it costs in our quote before you decide.
Is courier pickup from anywhere in Czechia really free?
Yes. We collect your device and send it back to you free of charge. You only pay for diagnostics (890 CZK) if the device can't be repaired or you decline the repair.
How much does diagnostics cost?
If we carry out the repair, diagnostics is free. If the device can't be repaired or you decline the repair, we charge 890 CZK for the time we've spent on it.
